  • Mentoring guidance and life coaching
  • Leadership roles through public speaking
    engagements, workshop facilitation,
    and community service projects
  • Educational opportunities
  • Creative expression
  • Survival skills training
    with self-esteem boosters
  • Female empowerment/development with
    a focus on etiquette, hygiene, and self-respect
  • Support group for girls' mothers

During her first live show,
"Miss Vickie" was acknowledged as an "unsung hero,"

Useful Information

As of January 2011, The Black Girls' Corner™ youth empowerment mentoring organization is currently participating in the NC Adopt-a-Highway program in the city of Charlotte, NC. TBGC™ has indefinitely adopted 2.2 miles of WT Harris Blvd., between Hwy. 77 and Davis Lake Parkway. We take ownership of our "mileage" and will beautify it as needed. Look for our sign along the side of the road.

DEBS - Determined, Empowered, Beautiful, Successful™ 

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

Past and present program components:

1)      “Grooming Legacy-Leading Debutantes™”
(bi-weekly sessions, group mentoring)

***This is our most popular, most attended program, to date.
Please see our bi-weekly schedule of topics on our PROGRAMS page.     

       Volunteer Mentors/Intern Mentors, guest facilitators,
and Mothers of girls lead workshops
on various topics pertinent to young girls.
(i.e. self-esteem, peer pressure, body image, dating)
Girls are engaged in role-plays, games, discussions, and exercises
to strengthen their leadership, personal growth, analytical,
social, and survival skills.

***Fun activities are also implemented
during these 2-hour bi-weekly sessions. 

2)      “Empowering Minds to Lead Mentoring™”
(weekly one-on-one mentoring program)

***The requirements listed below were introduced
(added to the existing mentor program)
to Debutantes/Budding Debutantes, Mothers (or other caregivers),
and Volunteer Mentors in July 2012.

                One-on-one mentoring is offered to each girl for
individual attention and grooming.
Weekly contact is required of each mentor/mentee match.
One week per month must involve face-to-face contact
between the Volunteer Mentor and Debutante Mentee.
Objectives should be set and measured at the end
of the mentoring period (1 year).

This program component also offers the mentor/mentee pair
opportunities to complete community service projects
("Serving YOU" community service projects) as a team,
including "Adopt-a-Highway, serviced 4 times per year."

“The Village Talks™” (community chats with a panel)

***These talks will resume shortly... Anticipated April 2013.                 

Quarterly community chats are scheduled
to discuss societal ills and community issues.
(i.e. teenage pregnancies, teen dating violence)
Panels may consist of all females, a mixture of females/males, or all males.

(communication mediums/creative arts) -
